Multiple news outlets criticized Microsoft’s decision to remove the game from the operating system. The original game was supported by 30 second video ads and later versions offered a monthly or annual subscription. The game is now free, although ad-supported. It also had a 24-x-24 Expert grid and credits CurtJ, LarryH, and RobD for their work on the game. Its newer version was a reimagining of the original and introduced bombs instead of mines. Mine 2.9 was released by Microsoft in 1990. While the basic premise remains the same, the game has a deeper, more complicated gameplay.
The object of the game is to move from safe square to safe square, avoiding mines and gathering treasure. This incredibly addictive puzzle game features a grid of squares in which some contain deadly mines and others are safe. If you are a fan of Microsoft’s popular Minesweeper game, you will be delighted to know that the game has been ported to Windows 10.
